Pros & Cons of Off Campus Placements

Pros of Off Campus Placements

  • Availability of limitless choices
    • Whether it is getting placed in the company of your choice, or in the role of your choice, the opportunities available to you in off campus placements, are limitless.

  • Remuneration is high
    • There is an option of higher remuneration in off campus placements. You can negotiate your salary if you think you deserve better, or if you're being offered a better compensation at another company. But, this is not universal for all situations. It will depend on your skill set and on how good you are at negotiation. It may also happen that the company itself may offer a good remuneration in off campus placements, more than what they offer in on campus placements.

  • More learning
    • Exposure in off campus placements is more, hence more learning.

  • Self satisfaction is huge
    • The satisfaction of getting placed in your dream company, after having beat everyone who applied for that role, is indeed big.

Cons of Off Campus Placements

  • Competition is high
    • Students from various colleges may apply for the same role in the same company. Hence, there is an increased competition here.

  • You are on your own
    • You need to search for job openings, apply for job roles, get interviews with the companies, even travel to different cities for interviews.
    • The college is not there to help you with all this, like in on campus placements.

  • Higher level of grilling during interviews
    • Since your interviewers in off campus placements know nothing about your background, they grill you more in the interviews to make sure you are a good fit for their company.

  • Higher experience
    • Companies generally ask for experience when they recruit off campus. This can be a job experience or an internship experience.
